The Event

What should I bring?

  • Costume, any OOC necessities, any IC props

We ask that you keep any essential OOC possessions on your person, ideally in a zip pocket or running belt or equivalent. There is a cloakroom, but no other space to store OOC things.

Any weapons must be LRP safe, and must be clearly bound to a sheath, belt or scabbard. You may not draw them for any reason, and fighting inside the venue is strictly forbidden for OOC reasons.

Drinks

Complimentary soft drinks will be served at your Court table, and there will be water available throughout the event.

  • There is a paid bar for alcohol and other drinks through the evening.  This accepts cards and cash.

  • Please do not bring your own alcohol - this is forbidden by the venue.

If you choose to drink, please be aware of your level of intoxication and ensure you are in control of your actions. The venue have their own security staff and a low tolerance for disruptive behaviour around the exhibits.

Food

Food will be a sit down meal with table service. You should all have had a chance to pick your meal options, and will be seated primarily with members of your own court. Tables will be marked with the Court names to signal where you are seated.

The serving staff are the employees of the museum and are unlikely to want to roleplay much with you. Please treat them with kindness and courtesy - it is reasonable to assume IC that they are hypnotised or charmed humans, but they will not be delivering plot or significantly interactable.

What else to expect?

There will be live performances from Glasgow Madrigirls and also a DJ. Both the Madrigirls and DJ Scapey are in attendance IC, and are here to roleplay, but there are no major plot threads associated with them. Please treat them with kindness and courtesy – there is nothing to be gained IC by offending the Devil’s guests!

What if I need some space?

If you need a break for whatever reason, the gallery to the right of the main entrance (large stone sarcophagus at the entrance) is our designated quiet area. Please do not roleplay in here, and respect your fellow players’ need for space and quiet should they require it. There are numerous other nooks and crannies of the museum for private chats!

Safe words

If you want to break off a character interaction for whatever reason, the following cues are used, and must be accepted without hesitation:

Verbal cue: “What a strange dream this is!”

  • Response: You must immediately end the conversation and move away.

Verbal and non-verbal cues:

“Green,” or Thumbs-up signal

  • This means “All is well.”

“Yellow,” or Thumb pointed sideways

  • This means the current topic of conversation should be discontinued for OOC reasons, but the player is happy to continue roleplaying as long as this change is made.

“Red,” or Thumbs down

  • You must immediately end the conversation and move away.

Non-verbal cue:

A fist raised in the air at around eye height

  • What I am saying is an out of character statement.

Please be proactive in assessing the comfort of your fellow participants. You can check in with a quick “OK?” at any time.

NPCs and Plot Objects

There are five NPCs at this event. They will all be introduced IC at the start of the evening.

The Devil, The Host

The Devil is played by Grayson Angus, and will primarily be interacting IC.

The Fool

The Fool is played by Jeremy Poppenbeck, and will primarily be interacting IC.

The Kindly Ones

The Kindly Ones are played by Sally Poppenbeck, Virginia Wynn-Jones and Jude Reid. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the smooth OOC running of the event, and are available to answer any OOC or game related questions. They can also be interacted with IC, though please be accommodating of their need to break off any conversations for OOC reasons. Any information they give you can be assumed to be true IC – the Fates do not tell lies…

Plot Objects

Some players may have a plot seed which includes a plot item.  This will be available in a named envelope just inside the entrance to museum, with a Kindly One available to oversee it.

There are many treasures present at the event. If one comes into your possession, please find one of the Kindly Ones to learn about it.

Theft

You may only steal an obvious IC object that is in plain sight on a table, floor or stairway. You must not open any other player’s bag, or touch their person

At the end of the event, please return any objects that do not belong to you to the Lost Item Amnesty spot, which is on the steps outside the museum, on the Argyle Street side, where a Kindly One will be waiting to assist you. There will be a sign

If something is wrong

If someone becomes unwell, please stop roleplaying and immediately alert the Kindly Ones, who will alert a first aider and take whatever emergency action is required.

If you have any OOC concerns or issues, please find one of the Kindly Ones, who will stop roleplaying in order to assist you.

If you aren’t having fun, please come IC to the Devil, the Fool or one of the Kindly Ones, and we will do our best to improve things for you.

All of this information is available on the website, and copies will be put up at the entrance to the venue

Please let us know if there’s any more help we can give you.
